It is important for field boundaries to be as accurate as possible since your fields provide a canvas for acre count, data collection, baseline measurements, and more. Boundaries must meet the following conditions:

  • Have fewer than 3000 points

  • Be less than 247,000 acres

  • Have a diagonal length less than 10 km

  • Be located within the latitudes 90°N and 90°S

  • Contain fewer than 50 polygons

  • Must not overlap another field boundary

Additionally, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • A field should generally represent where the same crop (or crop mix) is grown

  • Only include farmable land and exclude any land covered by roads, buildings, trees, hedgerows, and/or watercourses

You can add your fields in one of three ways

  1. John Deere Operations Center. This is the best option if you have all your field boundaries already mapped in John Deere.

  2. Upload Shapefiles. This is the best option if you already have digital files of your boundaries.

  3. Add fields by selecting pre-determined CLU boundaries. This is the best option if you do not have shapefiles or digital boundaries to upload.

Regardless of which option you choose to add your field boundaries, please be sure to fill in the field name and select the Farm (if this is the first field you are adding, you will need to add a Farm Name) and Land Type for each mapped field before clicking Save.

Option 1: Import from John Deere

If you already have your field boundaries mapped in John Deere, use the Import option to bring them over to your Carbon account. For details on how to do this, check out this how-to guide.

Option 2: Upload

If you have digital files of your field boundaries, you can use this option to upload them to the Carbon site. For a step-by-step guide to uploading shapefiles, please click HERE.

Option 3: Select/Draw

Using the search location bar, locate your fields on the map. It is usually easiest to start by selecting our pre-drawn boundary of your field. You can make any edits by using our tools to draw a new shape or modify points by dragging the white dots to make sure the field is accurate.

When drawing, be sure to click the Finish Shape button when complete.

If your field has minor gaps or breaks, use the tools under the Remove drop-down to cut out trees, buildings, waterways, etc.

You can also use the Undo and Redo features for more flexible field editing.

Last Step! Once you are finished adding all your fields, you will click Check Eligibility.
