How does the new crop plan data entry flow work?

If you've used Carbon by Indigo's software in past years, you will notice that we've made a lot of new changes this year. These changes are meant to simplify and expedite the data collection process so that you can get paid for Carbon Credits with less effort.

Data Entry by Crop Type

We'll start by establishing your crop rotation for each field. Because many growers consistently manage certain crop types in the same way year after year, we will collect data based on each crop in your rotation.

For example, it is common practice to apply nitrogen before a corn crop, but no nitrogen before a soybean crop. Rather than go field by field and enter the specific fertilizer for each year and field's corn crop, you will tell us how much nutrient you generally applied to your corn. We will then automatically apply that data to the corn years in whichever fields you select. We'll do the same for any other crops you grow.

Manage a crop type more than one way? No problem. You can create as many crop plans as you need to and then just select the fields those plans apply to.

Historic Management Records

In the past, depending on your crop rotation, you were asked to provide anywhere from 3 to 7 years of historic records per field. Now, you will simply answer "yes" or "no" for each practice according to crop type.

If you answer "yes" to any of these, we'll collect more details. Instead of asking for an exact date like we have in the past, we'll ask what your practices were relative to planting or harvest. Example below.

You'll then choose which fields those general practices apply to, and we'll use that data for all historic years where that crop was grown on the selected fields. The crop rotation for each field will be displayed for easier selection.

Annual Crop Plans

Annual crop plans refer to the most recent crop year's practices. If this is your first year filing with Indigo, this should correspond with the crop year in which you made your practice change.

We'll collect your approximate planting, harvest and yield information (not necessary for historic years), plus some details on any other practices you marked "yes" for.

Then, just like for your historic records, you'll choose which fields this set of practices applies to and we'll attach your data to those fields.

What if I filed a field in the past?

All fields that were previously filed and generated carbon credits will have their historic data transferred to the new data entry experience, so there will be no need to create new historic plans. For these fields, you will simply enter the details for your "annual crop plan," which should correspond to the most recent crop year.
